Memorial Day and Media Pulse

As we honor those who gave all in service to our country, let us not forget those who are setting high marks of achievement in moving our Bond forward today.  We all stand upon the shoulders and achievements of each other regardless of time and distance.

So whenever you visit No Nupe Left Behind.com, be sure to visit the Media Pulse (on the home page in the left-hand margin) in order to find the latest breaking news on and within Kappadom.

I have come to realize that some inspiration serves a higher purpose than whatever was thought at the moment of creation.  The Media Pulse is far better and stronger than any other Kappa resource that gives you a feel of what is going on within the Bond outside of The Journal.

The NNLB Media Pulse pulls information (news, blogs, and photos at a minimum) from all over the world in a near real-time fashion wherever Nupes are making it happen.  It is like your USA Today, Associated Press, and New York Times for the Bond and it is totally automated.

I do not personally know everyone that appears with a photo or headline involving Kappa, but I do know that I can always find something to take pride in and smile about.

News in Philly near and around IHQ

I just saw this article on the website for the New York Times and it made me think about the Grand Conclave held in Philadelphia in 1995 and my only trip to our International Headquarters (so far).

Interesting article and I wonder what is our local involvement since we have a big investment there.

2007 Grand Conclave Should Be Very Interesting from a Web2.0 Perspective

With the summer Conclave rapidly approaching, it is going to be very interesting to see how technology will pay dividends in the months before and after the summer event.

Various chapters, provinces, and individual Nupes will be creative in chartering buses, coordinating events and hospitality suites (no cameras, please), and taking post-Conclave networking to another level afterwards.

It is always interesting to see whether large scale events will deliver on promises since most such events have a lot of excitement that gets placed on a shelf immediately afterwards.

There has to be a consistent mechanism to keep the energy and excitement flowing to the local levels versus remaining in the host city.

An idea on the Conclaves just popped in my head after the last sentence and it should be interesting to see if it can be implemented quickly.

There should also be an opportunity to Nupes to better network across the NPHC membership in a web2.0 or web 2.0 fashion.  Mailing lists are fine, but they are becoming too restrictive when audio and video are usually not often included in the daily messages.

Perhaps there is something that can be done with YouTube or via a podcast that could do the job.  Any ideas, suggestions, or referrals are welcomed.

2007 Grand Conclave Is Breaking New Ground Already

Last Saturday while getting an oil change, I picked up a copy of Black Enterprise which featured the top cities for African-Americans and was pleasantly surprised to see an advertisement featuring an economic business summit to be held at the upcoming Grand Conclave this summer.

This is almost as big of a shocker as hearing that Redd Foxx actually died while having a "Big One" and folks thought that he was playing (sad, but true and almost sick to the point of laughter).

Minneapolis is not on my agenda for this year and now I wish that it was just for the summit alone.

I hope that the summit is videotaped (entrepreneurial opportunity within itself) and made available or at least the keynote speakers' presentations should be digitally available afterwards.

I give big Kappa Kudos to all involved in reshaping the Bond's paradigm with this effort.  I know that it was not easy by any means.

My latest Journal arrived Monday, May 14th as well and I see that Best Buy is going to be a corporate sponsor of the Grand Conclave as well.  Minnesota clearly has their thing together and I sincerely hope that the trend continues to other cities before, during, and after this summer's events.

The philosophy should even be broken into components that individual Nupes can implement within their lives.

This is awesome and I am excited for the Bond as well.

Since credit is going to hard to pinpoint at this point, I will give credit to everyone who is still making achievement a part of their lives and methods of operations.

If the news continues on this positive front, this blog may become obsolete until the Employee Empire Strikes Back:)

No Toga Parties on Tom Joyner's Fantastic Voyage & Que Mathematics

Yesterday (Friday, May 11, 2007) I heard on Tom Joyner's radio show that he spent over $80,000 for the past 3 years during his Memorial Day and week annual cruise to raise money for HBCUs due to the cost of replacing linen that cruise attendees had used for togas.

This is a hoot:)

It must have been a slammin' party since he encountered the cost for 3 years straight:)

I could see paying for the same cost in year two if logic led one to believe that it was an one-time fluke.  But after paying for the same cost in year two, Negroes would have had to bring their own sheets indeed.

As much as I love TJMS and his efforts, you cannot get around the humor of Que mathematics:)

Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me.  Fool me three times requires Omega membership which I don't have or want:)

LOL:)

What In John Milton Lee's Name Happened to Kappas for Kappa.com?

As much as I could say "I told you so", I won't say anything (or better yet much) about the management of the website Kappas for Kappa.com that launched shortly after No Nupe Left Behind.com launched.

Although I was given an offer that I could not refuse but yet did which clearly led to being cyberhazed and expelled from the NupeNet, I must admit that there were no winners within the internal fray.  But there is more than a conqueror and survivor within yours truly:)

I am just surprised that a concept with so much promise failed to live up to its hype and never gain any traction.  Shock and awe is an understatement for real on this topic.

I mean that I personally know how the regular routine can take one's focus away from regularly creating content, but the effort was not based upon the efforts of a single individual supposedly.

But if that within itself was the breakdown, I can clearly understand how the chain of events led to its demise.  The seeds planted were not of the type that could sustain long-term growth and achievement.

Within this technological age that we live in, it is critical that activities within the Bond are designed to support individual and collective achievement without sacrificing one for the other.

Each of our Founders was a dynamic young man who grew into his own place within society.  I never have heard any mumblings of any petty jealousies being among them although it could be understood given how the Bond grew and morphed into something larger than any of them could imagine.

Each Founder stayed in their own lane and played the role given to them.

The K4K website had individual contributors, and enough features that it should have stayed around longer at a minimum.  Or if it was going to be shut down, then another Nupe should have been given the opportunity to acquire the domain name and keep it all within the Bond.

Now the domain is available for sale to the general public, the content left to fainting memories, and without any significant contributions that can still be remembered.

Damn, what a shame:(

Friendly competition should have played a greater role in lifting all boats.  But unfriendly competition usually feeds upon its host within any case.

I just want to pour a digital libation to its memory and hope that another Brother or group of Nupes are able to either resurrect the intent in a more positive direction or make another attempt in a totally different direction that will serve the Bond very well.

With my current schedule and lifestyle, I am surprised to think how much lighter my daily load is without being a Nupenet subscriber.

But on those special days, I do miss it without a doubt.  I will leave the machinery and possibility of a Nupenet reinstatement to others.  There are just too many other fish to fry to waste any time on the matter.

If I were summoned to a Congressional hearing on the matter, I would not turn down the opportunity to be heard though:)

If anyone discovers any individual or collective effort that is worthy of being linked to for the benefit of Kappa, please let me know!

Yours in the Bond!

January Means More To The Bond Than We'll Ever Know

Lately after a friend's recommendation, I have been exploring some very cool tools offered by Google and discovered that the bulk of search engine interest within and upon our Bond is based around our founding month of January.

But January is so critical within the lives of most people as it offers a full, new year to wipe the slate clean and to start afresh regardless of how successful the previous year was.  It is too simple and intuitive, but fresh starts and achievement scream that they go hand in hand.

I was surprised to see how small the impact was during the rest of the year or possibly my research implies that undergraduate brothers and their related events have much more efficient marketing and promotions than anything that would be sought for year round.  I believe that the undergraduates have found a better wheel.

The opportunities for local chapters as well as chapters with a significant regional attraction for events will clearly improve as long as chapters have savvy Nupes at hand who are innovative within their thinking.

Even this blog and other concepts like it have room for improvement and this is the spirit of January and achievement that does indeed last throughout the entire year.  We just have to remember that our late summer and early fall planning better take January's impact and significance into stronger considerations.

Back in the Saddle!!!

You know that it is only the challenges of the normal routine that can keep great ideas down, but the inspiration for achievement is only delayed and not denied. With this post, it is my intent to return to the news and ideas that Nupes have been requesting and looking for. Remember to visit No Nupe Left Behind as well!

One thought that just popped up is that the Bond has been the victim of the school yard game of "keep away" in terms of the songs that still give Nupes chills and get Senior Kappas and neophytes alike misty eyed.

Several years ago at either the Philadelphia or Detroit Conclave, Brother Jonathan Hicks had copies of a CD he recorded of great and historic Kappa songs and the songs were also available on cassette.

I do not know what the repercussions were but I do know that sales were abruptly discontinued since the recording would still sell perpetually. I imagine that IHQ had placed a licensing fee too high to make the effort profitable in the short term for Brother Hicks.

IHQ should either reach a licensing deal with the effort of Brother Hicks as well as other Brothers who make such content available for further and future distribution. IHQ could then resell the CDs directly for a profit.

There are content distributors (such as Snocap) available to further such a permanent fund-raising effort in that each Nupe webmaster could lift the load and make the endeavor a profitable one on multiple levels. IHQ could then publicly request all chapters and Brothers to further distribute the songs. Kappa songs would not be restricted to sales among Brothers alone since family members would find them to be a great gift to the Nupe within their family.

As much as I am for achievement, I totally abhor the general preference and trend within the Bond to be only employees and grant applicants versus taking our own destiny into our hands through entrepreneurial endeavors.

Sharing the beauty of the songs already recorded and their historical relevance would also combat any downside that has been occupying media reports lately as well.

Yours in the Bond!
